What one small thing you can do today for self-care?

Looking for easy self care ideas for new moms? While self care may sound like a joke for new moms, it is totally possible!

Being a mom comes with so many emotions. From excitement to anxiety, confusion, and happiness, all the way to fear!

Because there is so much to do to make sure the baby is super comfortable, feeling frustrated and tired comes with the package too. That being said, there is very little time left for you to take care of yourself as a mom.

Personally, when I became a mom, I totally became overwhelmed with activities. My to-do list seemed to always be full, leaving me with very little time on my hands. If you are a mom, you know this can be frustrating and really stressful.

After being fatigued for a few months I sat down and come up with a plan on how to balance being a mom and taking care of myself.

I wanted something that would free up my mind and make me feel good as a woman without stealing too much time from my baby.

With that in mind, below are some of the self care ideas for new moms I have been practicing for the last few months. They may be simple, but they are working wonders for me.

Rest Whenever You Feel Tired

Well, I know this is easier said than done! But it’s incredibly important. The first few weeks when the baby comes home are difficult, especially because the baby does not have a regular sleeping routine.

The best time to get some rest is when the baby takes a nap anytime during the day.

With time, when the baby gets a regular sleeping routine, you will be able to rest more during the night.

A Morning Routine To Start Of The Day

By doing these easy morning routines, I am able to have an energy-packed day.

In this routine, I have dedicated some “me time” in the morning before the baby wakes up. During this time I am able to work out, write blog posts, or plan my day.

You can set an amazing foundation for an awesome day by creating a morning routine.

You can choose your morning routine depending on what you love doing and your daily activities.

Surround Yourself With Positivity

Being a new mom can be overwhelming especially if you are a first-time mom. That being said, it’s important to have a positive system to give you some peace of mind.

You can do this by talking to family, friends, and other moms who are going through some things like you.

Avoid stressful situations by all means. Also, get rid of people who don’t bring you peace, joy, and happiness.

Daily Affirmations

Personally, I find affirmations really helpful as they keep me motivated to do what I want to achieve. They also, make me feel confident even on days when I am not feeling so good about myself. Here are some of my favorite affirmations and how I say them.

Take A Bubble Bath

A bubble bath accompanied by scented candles makes everything better. And, apart from being clean and fresh, it’s super relaxing, and you feel great at the end.

When done with the bath, take time to oil your body. Use your favorite oil or body lotion, massage it into your body, and let the skin soak it in. This will definitely improve your mood, and in the long run, you will have tender, flawless skin.

You can also take this time to regroup, gather your thoughts, reflect on your life, and clear your head.

The best thing about this idea is that you just need 30 minutes, which means you can do it even when you don’t have lots of time in hand.

Self Care Ideas For New Moms That Will Change Your Life

Work Out

Working out will help keep your body fit and your head straight. Also, it’s going to help you get back to your pre-baby body and give you the energy you need throughout the day.

As a new mom, it’s important to start small because your body is still delicate. You can then advance into more intense workout routines once you feel your body can handle them. You can start with simple things like yoga, sit-ups, stretching, or push-ups.

Also, if you are not sure of where to start, there are loads of fast 10- to 20-minute at-home workout videos on YouTube for you to choose from.

Personally, my workout routines are very simple, but they are working great for me. I prefer working out in the morning because it gives me an energy-packed day.

Stay Hydrated

This should be the first thing on anybody’s to-do list. As we all know, drinking water and staying hydrated is the number one rule for staying healthy.

However, hitting the recommended eight glasses can be a challenge for most of us. That being said, it’s important to set yourself up for success. You can do this by getting a big water bottle, filling it in the morning, and taking sips throughout the day. You can also refill it when needed.

By doing this self-care routine, you will;

  • Have less craving for unhealthy foods
  • Have a glowing skin
  • Flash out body toxins
  • Prevent kidney damage
  • Reduce overall body burnout

Call Family And Friends

This is one of my favorite self-care ideas. Talking to my family and friends is like instant therapy.

I get to laugh out loud while offloading anything that might be stressing me out. Also, I get to help them out if need be which is fulfilling for me.

Get A Professional Hair Do

You know you don’t have to look crazy just because you had a baby!

I know by now you are wondering how I will make it to the saloon with a new baby. Well, you don’t have to. You can call a “mobile stylist” to give you a haircut, wash, and styling.

This will definitely leave you feeling great and it will relieve you of the stress and worry about doing your hair by yourself.

Eat Healthy Foods

Eating healthy is one of the best choices I have made in my life. Having a baby left me with baby weight which was stealing my confidence.

Look, I know cooking from scratch every day is not a realistic goal for everyone. Therefore, a healthy meal prep plan is a great way to get you started on this journey. This will save you tons of time and energy around the question “what’s for dinner?”

Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is feeling appreciation so deep in your heart for all the beautiful blessings you have in your life.

To do this, write at least 3 or more things you are grateful for and why you are grateful for them in detail.

Even if it’s just for 5 minutes a day, it can make a tremendous positive impact on your day and your life.

This will help you appreciate the things you have rather than thinking about what is missing in your life.

Once you start doing this, you will feel happier and more joyful. You will not only benefit yourself but your happiness and positive outlook will change the lives of those around you.

  1. Such a great list of suggestions for self care after having a baby. I’ve got two kids now and balance is such a challenge, especially with the current stay-at-home orders. It’s so hard to find any time to myself but having even an hour to take care of myself can make the day so much smoother!

  2. Great list! One of the things I started doing more was taking walks. I had a good excuse to take them. My son would fall asleep in the stroller while I enjoyed a long walk in the neighbourhood. It was a win-win – he slept, and I worked off the pregnancy weight.
