1.) I can’t Attitude

Not believing in yourself is the mother of all toxic habits to give up. How do you expect others to believe in you if you don’t? How are you going to achieve those goals you’ve set for yourself without believing in yourself?

By believing in yourself, you boost your confidence and self-image, and you approach things with a positive attitude, which helps you achieve more with ease.

Sometimes things are going to be so hard and “I can’t” do it will be the best option but rather than giving up, laugh through it and try again and again!

2.) Not Loving Yourself Enough

Self-love is very important. When you love yourself enough you’re able to choose yourself before anything or anyone else. You do what is right for you without worrying about what anyone else thinks. By doing this you protect yourself from unnecessary hurt and drama.

Also, you’re able to take better care of yourself mentally, financially, physically, and spiritually.

3.) Living Beyond Your Means

Nothing is more stressful than overstretching yourself in order to fit in a certain “class”. You know that bag, shoes, car you want but you have to max out all your card and leave in debt? It’s not worth it if it’s going to leave you in debt.

Instead, save for it. You can take up a second job and save the money from that job with the purpose of buying what you want. Also, learn to differentiate your needs from wants. This way, your needs will come first as you work towards your wants because wants can wait, unlike the needs.

Living beyond your means will get you into debt which in return will steal your peace and happiness. Don’t let things you don’t need steal your joy!

4.) Being Dependent On Others

Whether it’s financially or emotionally being dependent on others is draining! It takes away your ability and freedom to do whatever you want with your life.

If a person realizes you depend on them fully, they can take advantage of you or misuse you because they know there is nothing you can do!

Being independent on the other hand will give you the freedom to live freely and have an opinion about your life. You’ll be able to say yes or no on your own will.

5.) Living A Guilt-filled Life

Most of us have something we have done in the past that we are not so proud of. That guilt you’re carrying every day is preventing you from being happy today. Now, forgive yourself for whatever you did and work on your future.

6.) Not Taking Care Of Yourself

Do you remember the last day you took a day off and dedicated it to yourself? Taking care of yourself should be your number one priority! By taking care of yourself you live a more fulfilled life and you are able to take care of others around you.

You can take care of yourself by;

  • Reading self-improvement books
  • Working out
  • Eating healthy
  • Having enough sleep
  • Spa treatment
  • Going on a solo vacation

7.) Not Resting Enough

How grumpy do you feel in the morning when you don’t sleep well? Not getting enough sleep is one of the toxic habits to give up I struggled with myself. I realized if I stayed up too late, I would have a less productive following day. Having a schedule and sticking to it strictly is the best way to break this habit.

8.) Toxic Relationships

Toxic relationships will give you depression and anxiety! Stop dealing and hang out with people who don’t make you feel good about yourself.

Also, if the people around aren’t adding value to your life cut them off and don’t feel guilty about it. Love yourself enough to choose your peace of mind over others. In return be with people who support, appreciate you, and build you emotionally, financially, and mentally.

9.) Having No Savings

What would you do if you had an emergency? Having some money saved gives you financial freedom! It helps protect you in case of a financial emergency.

Also, it allows you to finance vacations, avoid debts, prepare for retirement, further your education and you can buy all the things you want from a house, cars to shoes!

Saving Tip: Start now! Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have much to save, as you progress you will find more from your budget.

10.) Not Decluttering

A messy space will have you losing what you need. You need to learn how to declutter your life. Whether it’s people who don’t make you happy, unused household stuff, clothes, or anything that’s in the way of your life being organized!

Now, I know making changes in your life can be hard but you need it. You can start by having everything is organized in the rightful place to avoid having disorganized spaces.

  1. Agree with all of this. I also think two other toxic behaviors are

    1. Toxic Positivity
    2. Detachment.

I think both are formed in response to avoiding suffering from attachment and negative thinking/outcomes but those two are also a form of suffering that strips us of living authentically and connecting with people.

    Keep up the great work!

  2. These are all great. I love that you mention guilt … guilt is poison – if we don’t let it go it can start to affect our health.
