Easy Declutter Ideas That Really Work!
Clothes You Don’t Wear Anymore
Frankly speaking, most of us have some clothes we haven’t worn in a long time but still keep them around. There are a number of reasons why most women feel the need to keep clothes they haven’t worn for some time.
There are a few:
- Your weight has changed and you have clothes in multiple sizes
- Something was a gift and you feel guilty getting rid of it
- The item is new or barely worn and you feel guilty about wasting money on it
- You’re keeping an item for a certain type of event or occasion
- Some things look and feel good, but you’re tired of wearing them
For these reasons, you will have an over packed closet with barely nothing to wear. Choosing to get rid of clothes you nolonger wear will leave you with apple space for the clothes you wear currently. It will also save you tones of time from going through piles of clothes any time you want to choose what to wear.
If you have a lot of clothes that you don’t wear anymore, and you’re ready to revamp your wardrobe the time to do it is now!
While you’re doing that, you’re probably wondering what you’re going to do with all the old clothes. Before you throw them in the trash, consider donating them. This will leave you with a clean space while helping someone else. You can also sell them and make some cash.
Apart from taking up space in the house, broken toys can be unsafe for the kids.
With birthdays, Christmases, souvenirs, and gifts, it’s easy for the number of toys in your home to quickly build up. As toys slowly take over, first the kids’ rooms, then the basement, play area, garage, living room, and on, you may start thinking about how to get rid of the less loved toys.
The thing about toys is, most of the break as easy as they come. However getting rid of the can be a hard task keeping in mind that their owners won’t let them go easily. It’s therefore important to involve the kid/s before throwing them away.
Getting rid of old and broken toys will give the kids more and safe play area. Also, it will create some space for new toys.
Here are some ideas on how you can dispose of the toys.
- If you have used toys that can be lightly refurbished, consider donating them
- Repurpose old game pieces and puzzle pieces into crafts and school projects.
- Recycle the materials
- Hold a garage sale then use the money to do something fun with the kids
- Swap toys with other moms
Anything without A Partner
This is one of my favorite declutter ideas. I especially love it because it’s and it doesn’t take a lot of energy. If you have anything that comes as a pair but you can’t seem to one of the other, it needs to go.
These could be socks, earrings, shoes or anything you can use by it’s self. Getting rid of these items will definitely free up space you didn’t think you needed or had.
Without being told we should never have expired food in our home but, we are humans it happens. Often people stock their fridge and pantry with food for easy accessibility.
Some people also stock up their house with food whenever it’s on sale which often leads to having more than you will realistically use or need. Or having more than will comfortably fit in your spaces and your home.
That being said, it’s easy to have expired food in the house.
Take some time of to clean and organize your fridge, pantry and any other food storage areas.
Worn Out Shoes
Well, as a woman letting go of a pair of shoes whether torn or not is always so hard – whether torn or in perfect condition. With this in mind, finding shoe clutter in most houses is not strange.
However, it’s important to let go of torn pairs once in a while. At the end of the day they’ll just be crowding your space when you know clearly you’ll never wear them again.
After decluttering the shoes, here are ways you can organize your remaining shoes.
Unique Declutter Ideas For Your Home
Anything With Holes
This idea comes in whole range and it covers all areas of the house.
- Bedroom – bed sheet, pillow cases, curtains, bedside rugs etc
- Closet – torn clothes, socks
- Bathroom – Torn towels, shower curtain, rugs
- Kitchen – Table cloth, kitchen cloth
With the ideas above, you now have an ideas of where to start whenever you want to clean these rooms. Also, when decluttering any thing with holes, don’t forget to get rid of items with bleach stains.
Old Mail Or Paperwork
From time to time, we all have a habit to accumulate mail and paper. These piles of paper make your home look cluttered. A good paper and mail filing system is the solution to this problem. Each bill we receive goes into our financial binder immediately, so I can pay it by the due date.
Any other document that comes to our house is either filed or deleted. Make a habit of dealing with the daily paper clutter, so that you can keep on top of this problem.
I wonder why we keep these when we clearly know you can never use it again. Expired medication can be dangerous, that’s why you should get rid of it the correct way.
You can dispose off unwanted or expired medication by dropping off the medicine at a drug take back site or location, flushing it down the toilet or follow the instructions on the medication leaflet.
Half Empty Bottles
These are all over the house! Now, let’s deal with the room by room.
- Kitchen – Juice bottles, spice containers, milk containers, water bottles
- Bathroom- Medication bottles, make up, shampoo bottles, shower gel bottles, candle containers
- Bedroom – Body lotion bottles, roll on containers, hair products bottles, cologne bottles
For some reason, most of us will open a bottle of something before the other bottle is over. Personally, am guilty of this habit. I love trying out cologne scent, shower gels and body oils. This leaves me with so many half empty bottles at a time which is super annoying especially if they keep tripping over the counter top.
